The LMS 101 Presentation covers a brief history of how Learning Management Systems have evolved from a combination of Training Management Systems (TMS) and Computer Managed Instruction (CMI). It touches on topics such as standards like SCORM and how they play a role in content deployment. Part of this the presentation goes through definitions of commonly used but often misunderstood terms. The majority of the presentation covers the reasons for using an LMS, what is important in selecting an LMS and what types of results you can expect from implementing an LMS. We developed this presentation to give people who are new to this industry or unfamiliar with LMS technology a good general understanding of what an LMS is for. Most attendees have been either in the process of selecting an LMS or have recently acquired an LMS and are trying to determine how best to use it. About the speaker : Ed Cohen joined Plateau as Chief Technology Officer in 1999 as part of a merger between Plateau and Sensory Computing, Inc. He founded Sensory Computing, which produced instructional titles, a pioneering LCMS and reusable learning objects functionality within an authoring tool. Sensorys titles became a standard in the nuclear power industry. Cohen currently serves as Chairman of the Aviation Industry CBT Committees (AICC) Training Infrastructure Subcommittee. He is the only software executive from outside the aviation industry serving on the AICC, considered one of the two main eLearning standards bodies. Cohen also is a regular speaker at international eLearning seminars and a frequent contributor to major eLearning and HR publications.
