Youll hear from, and get your questions answered by: LISA J. ACEVEDO, Esq., is a partner in the Health Law Department of the law firm of Foley and Lardner. Lisa concentrates her practice on HIPAA compliance and privacy, among other areas. She has developed and implemented corporate privacy and security programs and HIPAA implementation plans. She has written several articles and delivered a number of speeches on privacy and security matters, including HIPAA compliance. Prior to joining Foley & Lardner, Lisa was corporate counsel for Baxter International, Inc., where she had primary responsibility for advising and assisting two divisions of the company in FDA compliance issues. In this role, she provided counsel on advertising and promotional issues, clinical trials, manufacturing issues, premarket and postmarket issues, as well as regulatory strategies for marketing technology products. She was also designated Baxters privacy leader, with principal responsibility for advising on privacy, including U.S. and international privacy legislation. In this role, she helped to create and implement the companys Privacy and Security Program on a global basis. As corporate counsel, Ms. Acevedo also advised all divisions of the company in Medicare/Medicaid fraud and abuse issues. JENNIFER CARSEN, Esq., is a contributing editor to Employer Resource Institute publications. Jennifer has written on a wide range of employment law and benefits topics.
