On Dec. 10, 2004, President Bush signed the Veterans Benefits Improvement Act of 2004 (S. 2486), amending the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, also known as USERRA. USERRA sets out employment reinstatement and benefits rights for military service members, and it applies to all employers, regardless of size, including federal, state, and local government employers. And now the new law has made some important new changes that affect your USERRA obligations. Its critical to be uptodate on your duties under USERRA because employees who feel their USERRA rights have been violated can go directly to court without first filing an administrative action. If you make a mistake, you could find yourself paying huge sums, including back pay, attorneys fees and even double damages! To get up to date on the latest changes, join us on Thursday, March 17 for a 90minute audio conference. Its the fastest, easiest way to get up to date on this important topic. Youll learn: • Whos protected by USERRA and what it requires of you • Your brandnew obligations under the Veterans Benefits Improvement Act of 2004 • What the "escalator principle" is and how it affects returning service members • USERRAs special rules about senioritybased rights and benefits • How returning service members are protected against termination, discrimination, and retaliation • The costly penalties for USERRA violationsand how to avoid them • Plus much, much more!
