Wage and hour mistakes continue to cost California employers huge sums in jury verdicts, attorneys fees, settlements, and back wages. Consider these recent examples: • A California video game retailer agreed to pay $950,000 to settle a lawsuit charging the company misclassified managers as exempt from overtime. • Two California employers paid tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars to settle worker allegations that the employers didnt follow meal period rules. Plus, the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) has just issued revised proposed meal and rest period regulations. The new regulations are good news for employers, but you still need to follow them carefully to avoid getting hit with overtime claims for missed breaks. To help you stay in compliance, California Employer Advisor has brought together a distinguished panel of speakersincluding a former California Labor Commissionerto give you the information you need to comply with wage and hour laws in California. Join us on Tuesday, May 17. You and your collegues will learn: • The latest trends in wage and hour lawsuits • The common mistakes that land California employers in court • How to comply with whitecollar overtime exemption rules • The risks employers face under SB 796, the "bounty hunter law" • The rules on pay docking that cause employers the most headaches • How to stay out of trouble with meal and rest periods • When the federal FLSA applies to California employers About your speakers: LLOYD W.
