The single most difficult organizational challenge is getting employees to align their behavior with company vision and goals. When it happens, its magical. Things get done. People feel purposeful and engaged. Morale is high. Goals are met. When employee behavior is misaligned with goals, teamwork breaks down. More and more employees develop "attitude problems." Turnover increases. Performance drops. Our speaker, E. Scott Geller, is one of the nations leading authorities on behaviorbased management. His "Seven Principles" of performance management model has helped dozens of organizations boost performance. In this session he will give a conceptual framework for changing employee behavior and offer practical tools that will allow your management team to "get people with the program". At the end of this session, participants will be able to: Explain why "internal" factors such as attitude and personality are the wrong place to start when trying to change behavior. The right place is to examine "external" (system) factors over which managers have control Focus their Interventions with employees on observable behaviors Describe why positive consequences motivate behaviors. In other words, why you need to turn people into "success seekers" rather than "failure avoiders" Articulate the practical differences between vision vs. goal and performance vs. behavior. Explain when instructional, motivational, and supportive interventions should be applied for maximum effectiveness Achieve the maximum payoff from celebrating achievements in the workplace Design interventions with consideration of internal feelings and attitudes Customize their own techniques – based on the principles explained in the session – for effective behavior management and performance improvement Do what it takes to enable people to feel empowered and own the process ABOUT THE SPEAKER: E. Scott Geller, Ph.D., is a nationally recognized expert on behaviorbased management. He is the author of more than 350 papers and 75 books or chapters addressing the development and evaluation of behaviorchange interventions. An Alumni Distinguished Professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Dr. Geller published The Participation Factor in 2002 and is Associate Editor of the Behavior Analyst Digest, Behavior and Social Issues, and the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management.
