COBRA requires most employers to offer continuation health coverage to employees, spouses, and dependent children when coverage is lost upon termination of employment and certain other events, which seems easy enoughbut this COBRAs venom is in the details. The number of employers that are incurring penalties and having to fend off lawsuits because of failure to get the COBRA details right is on the rise. Even experienced COBRA administrators can have difficulty with the details, and the newcomer to COBRA administration can feel overwhelmed. This prerecorded, 90minute webinar titled "COBRA for Beginners" is designed for individuals with little (or no) COBRA background. Heres what we covered: The big picture: What is COBRA coverage? What employers and health plans are subject to COBRA? What are the consequences of failing to comply with COBRA? When and who: Under what circumstances must COBRA coverage be offered, and to whom? Who must notify whom when qualifying events occur, and what are the deadlines? What coverage must be offered, and when can coverage be changed? How long does COBRA coverage last? Notices: What are the general notice, the election notice, the termination notice, and the notice of unavailability? Are they all required, and when must they be provided? What goes in the SPD? Mechanics: Whats involved in offering, electing, and paying for COBRA? What are the deadlines? Handouts A 43page handout of the seminar slides, polling results, and other information is provided by download. Speakers Thomas P. McCormick, Esq. EBIAs Founder and Chairman Chris Williams, Esq.
