On Thursday, August 19, 2004, we presented a 90minute teleweb seminar entitled "Health Savings Accounts (HSAs): The Latest IRS Guidance." Health savings accounts (HSAs) are taxfavored vehicles that can be used to pay for outofpocket medical expenses and certain insurance premiums. The IRS released its latest HSA guidance on July 23, 2004. This teleweb seminarfocused on the new guidance. Were very pleased that Kevin Knopf, Esq., Attorney Advisor with the U.S. Treasury Departments Office of Benefits Tax Counsel, joined us to lend his expertise to the presentation. This is an intermediatelevel seminar, and will assume some familiarity with HSA basics. For one registration fee ($195), you and your coworkers can gather in one office or conference room to attend the seminar. (A separate registration fee is required for each additional telephone or Web connection.) Heres what we covered: * The policy decisions underlying the new guidance. * An explanation of the new guidance detailing what it adds to and how it clarifies previous guidance. * Where to go from here: Permissible vs. impermissible design features. Handouts: A 53page handout of the seminar slides, polling results and other information is provided by download. Speakers: Kevin Knopf, Esq., Attorney Advisor with the U.S. Treasury Departments Office of Benefits Tax Counsel; John R. Hickman, Esq., a partner in the Employee Benefits Practice Group with Alston & Bird in Atlanta; and Katherine J. Alexander, Senior Editor at EBIA.
